Transportation led this study of the core area of the Fremont
neighborhood in Seattle, Washington. The study recommended
substantial changes in the existing circulation system that
will be needed to accommodate the new growth in Fremont. The
study process included in-depth outreach to community
stakeholders and business owners to obtain insight regarding
key issues, and gain support for the recommendations. Even
before the study was complete, the City was able to secure
developer contributions for some of the recommendations. Also,
because the improvements worked as a system, the City was
awarded a major Transportation Improvement Board grant to fund
many of the top-priority recommendations. Most of the priority
recommendations from this study were constructed in 2006.
